Shetland Mens Open, Mens Plate & Mens Veterans 2010

The Cee Jays Shetland Mens Open and Shetland Veterans Open were played in Clickimin this weekend. Ramsay Hogg won in style not losing a game in retaining his title. Neil Petrie came a strong second place after a comfortable semi final victory over Billy Mycock. Billy came third after a 5 setter battle with Kevin Smith whom performed well to finish 4th in his first tournament after a hugely competitive first match against Richard Pottinger went to five sets.

The Veterans title went to newcomer Alan Hunter just edging out the long standing champion Gordon Thomson in a very competitive final. Both players however dropped sets in the 4 way round robin to Gordon MacFarlane and Bill Stubbings whose contrasting styles made it an exciting event to watch.

The plate event saw Richard Pottinger come through on top after an incredibly close 3 way round robin ensued between Richard, Kevin Moar and Gary Tulloch with only one game separating all three in the end. All three players were exhausted after some intense squash and long rallies with 2 five setters, and 4 games going clear of two points.  All squash enthusiasts should note that Island Games Training starts this Saturday 1st May 2010 at Clickimin from 6pm to 8pm.
